Hanover – Explore with Purpose

In the picture, a man is riding a bike. He is carrying a backpack. The sun is shining through the trees. The path is straight and lined with trees. On the left, you see a bench and people in the park. In the background, there is water – that is the Maschsee. It is a sunny day.

Hanover: Green and Livable

In 2018, Hanover was named Germany’s most sustainable major city and received the German Sustainability Award. The city’s quality of life is correspondingly high. Endless greenery can be found in the Eilenriede, Europe’s largest urban forest, the Herrenhausen Gardens, and along the Leine and Ihme rivers, the Mittelland Canal, and Lake Maschsee. Numerous bike paths and a well-developed public transit network ensure that getting around Hanover sustainably is a breeze. Hanover offers great opportunities for bike tours within the city and, of course, throughout the region. Canoe tours allow you to discover the city from the water. Especially in the city’s neighborhoods, there are many small shops and restaurants offering regional, sustainable, and fair-trade products.

Hanover is a major transportation hub in Europe. Thanks to the fast ICE connections in all directions, traveling by train is one of the most convenient—and, of course, most sustainable—options.
