Wolfenbüttel – The City of Lessing
1,000 half-timbered houses and Jägermeister
Wolfenbüttel, known as the home of JÄGERMEISTER. But did you also know that Lower Saxony’s second-largest surviving castle is located in Wolfenbüttel? Or that Gotthold Ephraim Lessing spent the last years of his life in Wolfenbüttel? No? For over three centuries, Wolfenbüttel was the residence of the Dukes of Welf. Largely spared by the wars of history, the old town—with its castle, the world-famous Duke August Library, the Lessing House, and the first Protestant church built in the area—still looks much as it did in the days of the court. Discover the “
” (City of Duke August) and the Lessing City of Wolfenbüttel—and keep coming back to explore it anew.
