A former residence of the Guelph dukes, a lively centre of activity with 53,000 inhabitants and many halftimbered houses, Wolfenbüttel will welcome you not only with its historical atmosphere but also all the amenities of a cosmopolitan yet friendly little town. You will be delighted by the old quarter with over 600 timberframe buildings, the magnificent churches, the prestigious Palace district, the worldfamous Herzog August Library and the Lessinghaus – together they make up a work of art which is unmatched in Lower Saxony.

By the way, did you know that Wolfenbüttel is particularly famous for its herbal liqueur, Jägermeister? Originating from the town of Wolfenbüttel, it has meanwhile conquered more than 100 countries. So make sure you sample it when you are in town!

Wolfenbüttel Palace

Among the castles of Lower Saxony, the Guelph Palace of Wolfenbüttel occupies a special rank: It is not only the second largest of its kind, but is also home to the only high Baroque state apartments of the country.The mighty four wings served the local dukes from the House of Brunswick-Lüneburg over 320 years as a residence. From its shiny royal household announce today the splendor facade of the palace and the landscaped 1690-1740 state rooms.

Theatre festival

We will enter the new season full fo anticipation and excitement as a large festival gets things going. Theatre and culture enthusiats of all ages are welcome to join us in celebrating the beginning of a plentiful year of theatre.

Wolfenbüttel Easter Festival

Traditionally, the Wolfenbüttel Easter Festival takes place on Easter Saturday. This year, for the first time, the festival will be held on Palace square. This way, even more Easter attractions can be offered to young and old.
