Efter mange ombygninger og en brand blev det fuldst\u00e6ndig genopbygget mellem 1887 og 1906 i en historicistisk stil. I dag rummer slottet den middelalderlige del af Herzog Anton Ulrich-museet. Dele af Guelph-skatten og v\u00e6rdifulde liturgiske kl\u00e6der er udstillet i slottets Knappensaal.
